Kandersteg International Scout Centre

Holiday or work at a permanent mini Jamboree!

“Baden-Powell’s dream was not only for this permanent mini Jamboree to exist, it was for Scouts to come here and live their dream. Whether it be climbing a mountain, making new international friendships, or learning and experiencing new things, they could come to Kandersteg and do it.”

- Andrew Cooper, KISC Assistant Program Director and Aussie Rover

Following the success of the first ever Jamboree held in London during 1920, Lord Baden-Powell expressed his wish of a permanent mini Jamboree where Scouts from all over the world could meet.

In 1921 during a holiday in Kandersteg, Walter von Bonstetten (then Chief Scout of Switzerland) discovered a disused Chalet. He wrote to Baden-Powell telling him of this magical place he had found in the Swiss Alps, and by 1923 the Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC) was born.

KISC hosts over 10,000 guests each year from around 40 countries, and is staffed by a young team of volunteers from around the world. The facilities and accommodation are modern and comfortable, and the scenery is spectacular all year round!

The program contains over 140 exciting activities based on three themes of International Friendship, High Adventure and Eco Adventure. There’s plenty of fun to be had - hiking, climbing, abseiling, downhill and cross country skiing, snow boarding, sledding, water activities, caving, ice skating, high ropes, mountain biking, paragliding and even skydiving! For those who are looking for something a little more relaxing there are eco-adventures, astronomy nights, orienteering, learning how to build igloos and snow caves, sightseeing and day trips, and social events such as discos and International Campfires.
